The Beatles - The Beatles' Story (1964)
Vinyl Spin of the Day.
Released on November 23, 1964 (just in time for Christmas!), this double album presents a fanzine-style "documentary" of The Beatles' career to that point. Prepared in collaboration with L.A. radio station KFWB, it was narrated by their main newsman, John Babcock, with help from another "Color Radio" jock, Roger Christian. Apart from less than a minute of the Fab Four's Hollywood Bowl appearance, there is no new music here. But there are some startling revelations, including the "fact" that John Lennon was the leader of the group. Paul doesn't appear until side three, after John, George, Brian Epstein and George Martin, immediately ahead of a discussion of "sneaky haircuts".

Isaac Stern - None But The Lonely Heart (1963)
They don't hardly make albums like this any more. The great Isaac Stern fiddles up a storm on a baker's dozen popular favorites. He is ably backed by "The Columbia Symphony Orchestra", a catchall term for whatever musicians producer Thomas Frost (yes, he was David's father) could round up to freelance that day.

I decided to replace my old mono copy with RCA's "Stereo Dynagroove" version. What an improvement!
It'll certainly give your old limp "Dynaflex" a run for its money.

As you well know, it was terrible stuff.
Just a way for RCA to use a lot less vinyl after the price of oil went crazy.

Part of his "Berlin" series. That, along with "Heroes" and "Low" are the highlights of his career, imo.David Bowie - Station to Station (1976)
I'm kind of late to the party ... but this is pretty doggone good.
If you are late to the party, check out those two. For what I know of your tastes, start with "Low". You might like that better. Both albums use the "pop music first side/experimental music second side" (although saying "pop music" might be a stretch). I still love "Low" overall.
