The Mamas and The Papas - Greatest Hits

Elvis Costello & The Imposters - Look Now (2018)

Edit: this all sounds too retro to me. It's like he's trying to be a latter-day Sinatra or something.

Various Artists ~ Piano Cloud Series (Volume One)

This was a more tumultuous week than usual here in the legal jungle.

So this afternoon after the dust settled I found myself with a few moments to relax with a cup of coffee and some of Mrs. Ojai’s pumpkin cookies. I decided to visit Axo’s Piano Cloud and I’m mighty glad I did. This is perfect music to destress by, subtle but not soporific. Suitably refreshed, I’m on my way home.

Thanks, Axo!

That's so cool, Sam. Certain kinds of music are a reset button for me. That is precisely the reason I listen to such music - to de-stress.

Much of the time while I am studying for hearings, I can't listen to music with discernible lyrics. Words and vocals distract me far too much.

And on the 8th day, God created the Cocteau Twins.
Yes, indeed.

In light of this, have you chosen to listen to Tamaryn yet? Either Tender New Signs (2012) or Cranekiss (2015) might be nice places/releases to start.

I have yet to listen to The Waves (2010). I should remedy that.

I haven't yet. Will remedy that soon.

Marianne Faithfull - Dreamin' My Dreams (1976)

This was Marianne's first new music since the prophetic "Sister Morphine" single in 1969. For her return to the recording scene, she decided to reinvent herself as, in her words, "a country and western Marlene Dietrich". These tepid covers of recent hits like "I'm Not Lisa" and the title song with their bland countrypolitan arrangements didn't remind anyone else of Lili Marlene. But Dreamin' My Dreams and her next album do shine some light on Faithfull's transition from precious folkie to the wasted druggie who would emerge on Broken English.

Not on Spotify. Maybe that's just as well. :nunja:

The Beatles -Bootleg Recordings 1963 (comp 2014)

Like Bob Dylan and Motown Records, Apple Records rush released this collection 13 days before the end of 2013 to preserve copyright protection for 59 previously unissued recordings. They consist of 15 studio outtakes, 42 BBC tracks and 2 John Lennon demos. Back in the salad days of costly bootlegs like the Ultra Rare Trax series and Yellow Dog label, new Beatles music was exciting as forbidden fruit. This collection packs all the thrills of a lawyer's opinion letter.

Your opinion letters excluded, of course. ;)

Richard Stoltzman ~ Dreams (1994)

This is good overall, if leaning toward the soporific.

"Meditation on 'My Shepherd Will Supply My Need'," J. S. Bach's "Siciliano, Barber's "Adagio," and "Cinema Paradiso" are perfect.

It would have been better if they had culled a few songs, such as "Tears in Heaven" and "Lullaby."

Have the Beatles’ Christmas records that they recorded for their fan club ever been released. I heard them years ago on Breakfast with the Beatles and they were humorous and charming. Not that one would listen to them often but wouldn’t mind eventually picking them up
