J. Cole - K.O.D. (2018)

When Jermaine talks about his mother getting drunk on cheap grocery store wine to dull the pain of a runaway cheating husband, then burdening his high school-age younger self with her depression-laden drunken monologues because she needed someone to talk to, and how he couldn't wait to escape that household once he graduated and went to college but how he felt guilty for leaving his younger brother without he acting as a buffer against their mother's emotional baggage ... I want to give them all a hug.

Various Artists - Amchitka (rec. 1970, rel. 2009)

This may be the rarest entry in Joni Mitchell's vast catalog. Joni, her then-boyfriend James Taylor and Phil Ochs did a fund- and consciousness-raising show for Greenpeace in Vancouver on October 16, 1970. Greenpeace finally got permission to release it on CD and the results are stunning. All three artists are at the peak of their respective games, shown to great advantage on this pristine soundboard tape. Alas, the double disc package and lavish booklet were available only from Greenpeace for a short time.

Chilliwack opened the concert but unwisely objected to being taped so they do not appear on this release. This reasoning could be why their fine early LP's aren't available digitally either. As a result, they are more obscure than they deserve to be. :vic:

Stan Getz - The Soft Swing (1957)

Any Stan Getz album makes for worthwhile listening. This one is especially noteworthy for the presence of Mose Allison on piano. Art Farmer's brother Addison plays bass and Jerry Segal handles the drums.

Elvis Presley - Walk A Mile in My Shoes: The Essential 70s Masters

While a complete assessment of The King's 70s output contains a lot of misses c/w the 50s and 60s, this 5 disc set does a great job as culling the wheat (both studio and live) from the chaff and really demonstrating Elvis still had a lot of great things to say towards the end.
Listening to Disc 1 & 2 today
