Simon Preston, Boston Symphony Orchestra (Seiji Ozawa, cond.) - Franck: Symphony / Poulenc: Organ Concerto (1993)

These two compositions neatly encapsulate the growth in French music between the 19th and 20th centuries, as embodied in the works of Cesar Franck (1822-1890) and Francis Poulenc (1899-1963). Seiji Ozawa's energy brings out every detail in these nuanced pieces.

Itzhak Perlman - The French Album (1974)

#358 on 1001 Classical Albums. As usual, Zeeb is much more diligent than I, since he is already up to #898.

This well-paced collection brings a half dozen flashy standalone concert pieces from France, performed by Perlman in his prime.

Michael Feinstein & Andre Previn - Change of Heart: The Songs of Andre Previn (2013)

Andre Previn...wherever I go, there he is. Jazz, pop, classical, film, Broadway: the man is inescapable. For this album, Michael and Andre chose 12 songs from his vast catalog, all but two of which he wrote with Dory Previn who had recently passed away. Her introspective, occasionally dark lyrics realize their full potential here with the vocals of Feinstein and the piano of her ex-husband.

:5.0: on the Sam-O-Meter.
