Gypsy - Gypsy (1970)

@axolotl tipped this one on the double albums thread and it sounded so good that I had to track down the CD on a gray market Spanish label. As usual, the man knows his stuff. This is one of the finer American prog efforts of the 70's, IMHO better than Kansas. Unfortunately, the LP appeared on the ill-fated Metromedia label and sank without a trace. After three more albums tanked, Italy-born lead singer Enrico "Rico" Rosenbaum took it so hard that he committed suicide in 1979.

Two credits of note: the string arrangements were done by Jimmie Haskell, better known for composing the theme for The Hollywood Squares and the soundtrack to "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry." And percussion was added by, of all people, Preston "Bongo Rock" Epps.

This does my old heart good. Now I have seen everything and can go my way, peacefully.

"This is the big one. I'm coming home, Elizabeth."
