Various Artists - The Rough Guide To Arabesque (2002)

Hip hop, rap, trance and electronica from the Middle East. As exciting as it is unexpected.

Three Dog Night - Complete Hit Singles

MI0000419007.jpg

Stopped at a convenience store/gas station this AM, and the minor hit "Out in The Country" was on (I didn't recognize the artist at first so used Shazam). I took this as a sign to break out this Three Dog Night compilation. They actually had 21 top 40 hits between '69 and '75 (11 top 10 hits) - not too shabby and yet not invoked in conversation much today aside from "Joy to the World" (perhaps one or two more). Not a comp I play often but pretty good selection of late 60s/early 70s hits.

Ben Pollack - The Dean Of Swing (rec. 1926-50, ASV Living Era comp. 2003)

One of the unsung pioneers who led the transition from the flapper music of the 20's to the big band era of the 30's. Many future big band leaders got their start with Pollack, notably Benny Goodman. This thorough compilation is one of very few Pollack collections and well worth tracking down.

Ramones - Leave Home (1977)

Feels like a Ramones day so started with their debut, now moving to their sophomore effort.
Will probably listen to more Ramones today but definitely have to break out some Fats Domino given his passing :(
