Roy Eldridge & Dizzy Gillespie - Roy and Diz (1954)

Nas - Magic (2021)

Like most musical acts, Hip-Hop artists approaching middle age usually release less and less frequently until they fade away into irrelevancy. Nas, who turned 50 a couple of weeks ago, is not only ignoring the age cliff in music and refusing to fall off, he's continuing to produce quality albums. Who does Nas think he is? Prince?

"Illmatic", his first album had ten carefully chosen, great tracks, created primarily with a single producer. In the last six years, he has released 7 albums that mostly follow that blueprint. I haven't heard them all, but the ones I have heard are very good. This one is too.

Recently I received a pristine copy of this album as a bonus from a kind seller on Discogs. I love epic soundtracks and this one did not disappoint.

Well before the whole debacle known as the "alpha male" hypothesis, MAD Magazine would pit references of Victor Mature vis-à-vis Orson Bean.

I never knew what that was about. I still don't.

Well before the whole debacle known as the "alpha male" hypothesis, MAD Magazine would pit references of Victor Mature vis-à-vis Orson Bean.

I never knew what that was about. I still don't.

Mature told Life magazine in 1941, ''I can act, but what I've got that the others don't have is this,'' as he pointed to his body. The same article described him as ''proportioned like a frappe glass''.
