I have to be in the mood for that.
Roy had a brand new pair of shoes. He goes to visit his friend. Being polite, he removed his shoes and leaves them at the door. While visiting with his friend, the friend’s cat discovers Roy’s new shoes, likes the smell and proceeds to chew them up.

Roy goes ballistic. The friend, feeling very bad, has a dilemma: he has two cats. One of the cats enters the room at that moment. The friend then asks:

Pardon me Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?

I heard it in a version with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.

It’s an old joke… Roy Rogers bought himself some brand new boots, and admired them every evening as he set them out on the back porch before bed.
One morning, he went out and found the boots all chewed up as a mountain cat bounded away as the door opened.
Roy was so upset… he set out on Trigger, announcing to Dale Evan’s that he was off to kill the mountain cat that wrecked his new boots.
Two days later, he arrived back home looking rather bedraggled, with a dead mountain cat slung across the back of Trigger. As Dale Evans watched him trotting up the road to their house, with the mountain cat on the back of Trigger, she said,
“Pardon me Roy, Is that the cat who chewed your new shoes?”

As a kid, I remember learning that joke - it's far too long a set up for the immediate gratifcation of kids today :)
Plus no one knows who Roy Rogers or Glenn Miller is :(

But even today when I hear that song and remember the joke

George Strait - Live! (rec. 1987, DVD 2010)

DVD Rip of the Day.

And another format is dragged into the library. A couple of weeks ago, we encountered a gray market CD of a George Strait radio broadcast from the Lone Star Cafe in 1984. Three years later, MCA recorded George at the new Reunion Arena in Dallas. The capacity crowd of 19,000 gave him an enthusiastic welcome as he worked through a well-crafted set of 16 songs. To his own hits, he added covers of Texas favorites Bob Wills, Hank Thompson and Jimmie Rodgers. In three years, he had gained the confidence and poise on stage to handle a large stadium audience with ease.

This concert appeared on VHS in 1997 and in an expanded DVD in 2010 but never on CD. Strait wouldn't release a live album until 2003, so these two shows offer a unique view of the hitmaker early in his career. Reunion Arena would be demolished in 2009 but George Strait rolls on to this day.
