Yeah! "Everything I Own" is a bit of a shocker on this list at all. I think the only Bread song I'd allow is "Make It With You" and has enough of a nice vibe to have prompted good covers by Aretha and Dusty Springfield among others.

2) As you know, I'm pretty close to Jazz and I spoke to jazz the other day about some of the inclusions on the list. Jazz said, "I suppose we here at Jazz should be delighted (as an oft-forgotten genre) that we get ANY songs on this list. And not that we want to be ungrateful...but...the Koln Concert is a top 100 Jazz piece of all 100+ years of our genre. Quite honestly it's probably a top 50 piece if you throw in historical importance (and folks like Axo who we've always been fond of here at Jazz would put it in the top 5 even above songs like "Oleo" and "St. Thomas", maybe even above "Basin Street Blues" which is a bit extreme but we love Axo). So for the Koln Concert pt I to appear down her around 3600s is a bit insulting. I mean, no one is saying Travis' "Sing" is one of the top rock songs of all times, right? I dunno...I guess we'll just shut up as we always do and take whatever love listeners throw to us these days"
3) Zeeba would like to add about the Koln Concert: mixing 23 minute album-side pieces next to 3 minute songs is a bit jarring to the playlist process
4) Some good songs here: Stevie, REM, Rush, The Jam but, man, a stint of lengthy electronica in the middle (Hardfloor, Todd Terje, Andy Stott) was a drag especially as they're all 7-8 minute long and Stott's dream-electronica (is that a genre?) "Numb" was just dull
5) Random fact: Travis, the Scottish band, was names after the Harry Dean Stanton character in the film Paris, Texas
6) I have not heard Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" since the 1980s and boy did I miss it
7) Song I would place much higher: "Just One Look" by Doris Troy. Great remakes out there by The Hollies and Linda Ronstadt but the original is just wonderful. Runner up: a little surprised The Possum's "Good Year for the Roses" didn't rank better

Rihanna is my favorite of modern pop singers so enjoyed "SOS" too.

Lengthy list as I summarize some listening over the past 3 days (and get past the 3500 mark). Lots of great, familiar songs out there. Are you surprised some didn't appear at a better number?
a) Biggest surprises for me are Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours" (especially as it's the title track of one of the first big LPs) but also "Love the One You're With" by Stephen Stills. Isn't the latter more iconic and beloved (and singable) than, say Alannah Myles 90s hit "Black Velvet"?
b) Speaking of Ol' Blue Eyes, I have always loved "Strangers in the Nights" and would have it better on my list
c) One reason I enjoy this list is hitting songs that I honestly would completely forget on a personal list, por ejemplo, "Tara's Theme" from GWTW. Definitely iconic and deserving.
d) "Touch of Grey" - meh. How does that beat The Stones "Bitch" or Ike & Tina's "Fool In Love"or anything by Curtis Mayfield
e) OTOH, "Since I've Been Loving You" is such a fantastic Zep song, one that you never really hear on rock radio.
f) Some early Cat Stevens way back in 1966 - very different from his big stuff 5 yrs later. More quirky chamber pop
g) Husker Du's "Celebrated Summer" :thumbsup:

I must admit to surprise at seeing Romeo Void. “Never Say Never” was a mainstay of the early KROQ but I haven’t heard it in decades.

The two Sinatra songs are an interesting contrast. “Strangers In The Night” was a big hit even on Boss Radio while “Wee Small Hours” never came out on a single at all.

Jimmie Rodgers’ “Blue Yodel No. 9” (of 13) wasn’t his biggest but did contain one of his most famous couplets:

I said you'll find my name on the tail of my shirt
I'm a Tennessee hustler I don't have to work.

And that’s Louis Armstrong and Lil Hardin Armstrong supplying the genuine jazz background, an early example of interracial recording. Of course it was waxed in L.A., not Atlanta.
