My goodness! This project has been neglected - more about that on a Random Music post, but glad to rev things up again.
Thoughts:
a) Whether I enjoy or don't enjoy the different songs, having Myley Cyrus, Bob Mould, Tina Turner, and Muddy Waters on consecutive tracks is my kind of party
b) Big pop songs definitely a part of this list as a whole, but, if "Wrecking Ball" is here, Myley's "Party in the USA" has gotta be here? (he asks to utter silence)
c) Speaking of female singers, I kind of which our old buddy Sidey would post here (as he did on FB) about his recent lack of tolerance for the female voice in music
d) And speaking of voices, Ethel Merman! "I Got Rhythm" taking all things historically should be higher
e) and personally I'd like Dusty's pop-classic higher
f) I can only now listen to Erasure. My college roommate (who did not listen to much) fell in love with Erasure in college and would play the cassette non...stop...ugh. In retrospect, he was probably getting me back for all the Clash, Ramones, and Elvis Costello that I played.
g) though many might find Paul's "Silly Love Songs" too treacly (very much a pop song of the second half of the 70s), I find its simplicity charming
h) introduced to many world music/foreign language songs I'd never heard on this list
i) "Ride Captain Ride" continues the list's tradition of including 70s one hit wonders
j) Always glad to see some crossover jazz songs on the list. Error Garner - incredible pianist who will definitely appear in my jazz thread
k) Finishing off with the dopey but addictive funk number by JB from the Rocky IV soundtrack
