Acclaimed Music Top 5000 Songs

Oh no!!!!!
Just as I was about to take this up again, I look on the Acclaimed Music website and they've done their first song list update in like 2 years.
First of all now it's the top 10,000 songs (no, as crazy as I am, I am NOT starting over again)
But now the songs are in a different order and some of the one's I've played already have risen up the ranks

My son says just start at the number I left off and duplicate listens be damned
But I may have an old list downloaded on Excel somewhere

Should I start a poll? What should Zeeba do? No just kidding - but feel free to post here.
I left off my listening at the top 4000
Ugh but a lot of great songs that I love have dropped down - Eagles' "Take It to the Limit" #4404, Joan Baez "We Shall Overcome" #4414

Now that Axo has inspired me, unfortunately I need some catchup posts - actually up to 3999 in my listening and, after a month off, started listening again this AM
Definitely started this journey to hear some unfamiliar songs and this grouping certainly had that - take the top of this list - many of those where new to me.
Lots of fun songs here though:
1) "Mother and Child Reunion" is probably my favorite Paul Simon soul song. Just like the feel to it
2) Yes the Regents original version of "Barbara Ann". I'm sure the Beach Boys will come up further on the list
3) "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" - perhaps the best song about an inflatable sex toy (I like it better than The Police's "Be My Girl - Sally"
4) "Make It With You" by Bread....eh?
5) I've personally never enjoyed "Going Up the Country" and it seems to appear in every nostalgic retro 60s film and car commercial
6) Always think of Daniel Stern singing "Ain't Got A Home" in Diner imitating Frogman Henry's falsetto
7) When I was in college, I enjoyed Vanilla Fudge's version of the Supremes "You Keep Me Hanging On". Then as I aged, like a lot of overwrought psychedelia of that era, it became a bit of an eyeroller, but I've come around again and whenever it pops up, I enjoy it.

"Trouble Comin' Every Day" has a surf vibe, at least in the rhythm.
Did you make it through "Make It with You"? Band should have changed its name to White Bread.
"Sweet Baby James" is at #4282? Doesn't leave a lot of hope for much else that JT did, but ...eh.
I think I'd forgotten that Ray Charles did "Let's Go Get Stoned," but I'm re-intrigued. I'll go find it. BRB. It's so nice.
I just sent off a CD copy of Vanilla McFudge to EvilMcGnome. He wanted it more than I did. Anybody would want it more than I did. They just never did it for me, and I think even then I might have been thinking, "They're trying too hard." That will be my word for them: Overwrought.

If Joe Cocker did it, someone else must have done it first - just kidding. RIP Joe. Love your emotion, but I do enjoy Ray's version better.

I have a strange aversion to James Taylor (you should see the lightning sparks when he comes on the radio of me changing the dial). Some stuff will come up higher but gotta say I don't care if it doesn't.

Like a man possessed, here's more of some listens from a few weeks ago. What a list too - great mix
A few personal loves:
a) "Ambulance Blues" - great song off a tremendous Young album (On the Beach)
b) "If I Fell" by The Beatles - hey not all Beatles songs can be up top, but another good one "falls" lower down
c) "The Lonely Surfer" - always welcome surf music on this list
d) "Desaparecido" - how do I have a couple of Manu Chao albums in my collection. I don't know who recommended him to me but really enjoy him
e) "Sinnerman" by Nina - my vote for this list's "It Should be Higher" Award
f) I'd much rather Merle sings me home than Kenny Loggins celebrate me home, but that's just me
g) another Lloyd Price on two consecutive lists...and he's come up before.
h) I don't listen to Judas Priest but really like "Breakin' the Law" - I think Beavis recommended that one to me (though it could have been Butthead)
i) I'll always remember seeing the film Titanic with my wife and in the parking lot debating the lyrics of "Someone Saved My Live Tonight"...yes, it's "Sugarbear" - maybe Bernie Taupin was a Post Super Sugar Crisp cereal fan

4219) "New York City Cops" by The Strokes (2001)
4218) "Point Blank" by Bruce Springsteen (1980)

4181) "Mama Said" by The Shirelles (1961)
4180) "Nobody Beats the Biz" by Biz Markie (1987)

Thoughts:
a) Now it's getting personal! A lot of really good songs here. Two Springsteen songs (three if you count Manfred Mann's cover - never really liked that hit version) and both are good. "Point Blank" (first song on second album of The River) is a real downer but man what a song. "My City of Ruins" off The Rising was written with NYC in mind, but Bruce has repurposed it for other cities too e.g. New Orleans post-Katrina. Great later Bruce song.
b) Oh sure there are better Police songs ("Message in a Bottle", "Synchronicity II") and it may be that 1981 nostalgia talking (one of the earliest MTV videos I remember), but "Every Little Thing..." is perhaps their best pop song. I've always loved it.
c) Dylan! Otis! Even a great disco song by KC - good stuff
d) "New York City Cops" was the Strokes song taken off of their debut when released in the U.S. Of course, it's readily available now.
e) I would easily but "Point Blank" and "Every Little Thing..." higher but the "It Should Be Higher" Award this list goes to Jerry Butler's "He Will Break Your Heart" - the Iceman is just fantastic. What a great R&B song (it's so great, it couldn't be ruined by Tony Orlando in 1975 when he released it under "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You)")

A few more for today:

4179) "Knoxville Girl" by The Louvin Brothers (1956)

4172) "You Make Me Fell Brand New" by The Stylistics (1973)
4171) "Lost in the Supermarket" by The Clash (1979)
4170) "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues" by Eels (200)
4169) "Renegade Snares" by Omni Trio (1993)
4168) "Excerpt from 'A Teenage Opera'" by Keith West (1967)
4167) "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" by Haircut 100 (1981)
4166) "Here Comes a Regular" by The Replacements (1985)

4157) "The Jag' by The Micronauts (1999)
4156) "NY Excuse" by Soulwax (1994)

4147) "Children's Story" by Slick Rick (1988)
4146) "Who's Go the Crack?" by The Moldy Peaches (2001)

Thoughts:
a) "Loving You" - ugh. Really? That high note is like nails against a chalkboard
b) I think this is the second time The Moldy Peaches have appeared. I'll give another ugh - that indie Apple-music tailor made ever-so-droll/twee stuff
c) OTOH, 4161 to 4158 was a nice stretch. Elvis Costello's cover of the Sam & Dave number is as good if not better that the original
d) Didn't Sam just reference the Louvin Brothers? Two Louvin references in the same day?! What kind of site is this? ;)
e) Freda Payne's biggest hit is "Band of Gold". Must admit I did not know her anti-war 1971 song (it hit #12 actually). Payne clearly joined other R&B artists at the time (Curtis, Marvin, Tempts) at a change to more socially conscious music.

4145) "La Poupee qui fait non" by Miche Polnareff (1966)
4144) "DMD KIU LIDT" by Ja,Panik (2011)

4133) "Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" by Chic (1977)
4132) "The 15th" by Wire (1979)

4113) "One of a Kind (Love Affair)" by Spinners (1973)
4112) "Little Latin Lupe Lu" by The Righteous Brothers (1963)
4111) "She's On It" by Beastie Boys (1985)
4110) "1977" by The Clash (1977)

Thoughts:
a) a lot of songs that I'm just meh about on this list - "Dance, Dance, Dance" is just an OK Chic song, I've never liked "Centerfield" for whatever reason, "Roam" probably wouldn't make my list at all. I'm usually an '80s nostalgia junkie but "Rock This Town" never did it for me. Even "1977" isn't a Clash song I dig.
b) I don't like Traffic's "Low Spark" as much as others, but was surprised to see it down here
c) although The Beatles' "Everybody's Got Something to Hide..." seems like one of those White Album knock-off's that wouldn't be here, I find it infectious, energetic, fun.
d) Two songs I do like seeing here: Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors", a country crossover hit that I haven't heard perhaps in 40 years and "Punk Rock Girl" by The Dead Milkman which is goofy fun (I actually had a couple of albums of theirs in college including this one, Beelzebubba)
e) Yes, I opted to play the single version of Isaac Hayes' "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" instead of the nearly-19 minute album version
f) Most interesting juxtaposition was listening to Leslie Gore's early-60s goodness right next to the filthy Lil Wayne's "Lollipop"

Thoughts:
Not many. As much as I enjoy a number of these songs (e.g. "Wild World", "Is this Love", "Let's Get Married"), I'm not sure this isn't a fine place for them on the list. If I had to quibble with one song being too low, it would be Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" - great song.
Is anyone else besides me torn about the Proclaimer's 1988 hit "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - it's kind of annoying yet very catchy and singable. I always laugh when I hear it because there's an episode of How I Met Your Mother where the cassette deck is jammed with that album in it so they play that song on a road trip over and over. I kind of enjoy it - guilty pleasure I suppose.

"Orinoco Flow" by Enya offers the heights to which her ouevre will rise, I suspect.
"Run" is one of those lyrically-insipid songs from run-of-the-mill Scottish group Snow Patrol, which has ideal lyrics for such montage-moment shows as Grey's Anatomy, with lyrics like "Light up, light up / As if you have a choice / Even if you cannot hear my voice / I'll be right beside you dear."
"Brick House" is just good stuff to get down to, like "Rubber Band Man" and "Celebration." YMMV.
"One of Us" was performed practically every quarter by the in-house band in our dirty-little-church-in-the park that we put to rest 15 years ago. Celebrate good times, indeed.

4040) "September Song" by Walter Huston (1938)

Thoughts: not many - although a bit surprised that "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", the Turner's "Proud Mary" and "The Way I Am" are this low, I'm fine with their position.
Some oldies on this list - the Broadway song "September Song" which is a oft-covered jazz standard though few might remember it was from the 1938 song Knickerbocker Holliday and first sung by actor Walter Huston (director John Huston's father). I love the song "The Way You Look Tonight" but prefer Sinatra's Reprise version. And I always smile at the Oscar-winning "Swinging on a Star" (from Going My Way) with the couplet "And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo/every day you meet quite a few"
Comin' up on #4000

Our neighbors in LA are British emigrees. We had them for Thanksgiving and I played my Spotify fall playlist including Huston’s “September Song”. Much to my surprise, George immediately recognized it. Turns out it was his dad’s favorite record.

Thoughts:
Time to get serious! ;) Finally posted last of the 4000s. Over the last few weeks I did get a bit into the low 3000s and hope to post them today so I can truly be caught up. Then hoping to keep with my resolution but listening to (and posting) shorter lists (11/day would finish this list over the year so may listen/post to groups of 15 - easier to type too)

Hoping also for more MG comments as many of the songs get more familiar

No big injustices on this list re: placing. I was first exposed to "Oh Lonesome Me" with Neil Young's slower version on After the Gold Rush. Similarly my initial exposure to the blues classic "Key to the Highway" was through Clapton on Layla...
Nice to the The Very Best get some love here. Remember when that album came out in 2009 and was a favorite of many an MGer
The Chauffeur is a nice number by Duran Duran - bit more post-punk c/w their poppier entries.
I've always enjoyed "Devil Went Down to Georgia" (probably nostalgic as it came out when I was 11) - sure it's cheesy/goofy. It belongs down here though.

3964) "Fell on Black Days" by Soundgarden (1994)

Thoughts:
a) Some nice songs here. Judy Collins version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is too low, but otherwise most songs seem appropriately placed
b)Exceptions: "I'm Too Sexy" ugh - really? That 90s relic belongs in a long-buried time capsule.
c)Ditto to "Mmmm x 4" - though popular at the time, is anyone breaking out their old Crash Test Dummies albums anymore.
d) OTOH - nice for great stride pianist/early jazz trailblazer James P. Johnson to get some love here.
e) We've got the great originals of "I Don't Want to Talk About It" (more popular by Rod Stewart) and "Tainted Love" (more popular version by Soft Cell).
f) Double shot of Simon & Garfunkel
As wonderfully smooth as Smoky's voice is, "Being with You" (which I don't think I've heart since the early 80s) is just a so-so light R&B love song

3963) "La Piscine" by The Little Rabbits (1998)

3940) "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull (1971)
3939) "Ch-Check It Out" by Beastie Boys (2004)

Thoughts:
a) Is this how the 3000s are going to be?! I know almost all of these. That being said, most of these are reasonably ranked
b) Biggest injustice ;) Van the Man's "Wild Night". I have always loved it - impossible for me not to sing along.
c) Trivia on Satchmo's "Hello, Dolly!" - it's the song that dethroned the Beatles 14 week hold on the #1 spot (three successive songs) in 1964. I believe Louis Armstrong still holds the record with this number for oldest artist to hit #1 at age 63
d) I have always enjoyed Joe South's sound. I think I'll break out his greatest hits this week
e) The trivia that always comes to mind when "If You Leave" comes on is that it's Claire and Phil Dunphy's dating "song" on Modern Family. Hilarious first season episode guess starring Edward Norton as the bassist of Spandau Ballet whom Claire hires for their anniversary when she mistakes their song as "True".

Oh let me just post the video:

And, hey! I'm caught up. Hopefully from this point on, I'll be posting lists as I play 'em

I listed only the songs I've heard. A couple I'm not sure that I've heard the version with the act listed, and I'm not sure if I heard "The Chauffeur".

Like you, I love "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". I remember listening to it a lot, and loving it a lot. The lyrics seemed so cool to the 13-year-old me.

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" should be higher.

I'm shocked "I'll House You" made the list. It was a fave of everyone I knew in '88. I've mentioned it elsewhere, but one of the Jungle Brothers relocated to NC and became a plumber -- if I ever get rid of my regular guy, I'm going with the JB'er.

Again, listing only the songs I've heard.

I love that "I'm Too Sexy" made it. I don't listen to it any more, and I really didn't listen to it much when it was out, but I love the chutzpah of the lyrics.

"Love Rollercoaster" is great, but so too are "Higher Ground", "That's Amore", and "Dance Apocalyptic".

Oh, and I have to disagree about "Being With You". As a child of 80s radio and a child of 60s Soul music, a then-contemporary song by a Soul god like Smokey was solid gold to my ears. It was something on popular radio that teens and adults could both agree was great.
