Audiophile Thread

For the holiday season, I decided to bring my vintage Philips CD player out of mothballs. After several years of streaming, there is an inexplicable satisfaction from pulling a CD out of its protective shell and watching my equipment swallow it up.

Notice the state of the art controls: MP3 link, USB drive and a dock for an iPhone or iPod, both of which I retired long ago.

The full function remote control enables me to manage things without losing my place at the festive table.

Here's a close up of the portable Christmas library that's also been sleeping in the vault for several years.

Ho! Ho! Ho! and Press To Play.

^ Our Bose CD player gave up the ghost a few months back and we replaced it with a much less expensive brand. Turns out, it has better sound than the Bose and we are back to playing our CDs again while we cook dinner.
Was your Bose a standalone, all-in-one unit (that is, with speakers), or simply a CD player (that is, a component)?

Inquiring minds need want to know.

I am pretty firmly a cable believer. I bought new RCA cables for my stack and they do indeed sound better than the old cables. I would say the improvement in clarity is about 10%, so maybe not much. But it is indeed noticeable.

Listening to Cameron Winter's album Heavy Metal reveals that the improvement in sound quality is not so trivial! Wow.

Which brings me to ask the ultimate question: wire we even hear?
Hey! Just because I bring up a major, obvious flaw in the human condition that irritates other people by merely being brought up, doesn't mean you get to ask difficult questions yourself, mister!

That being said, I now own two wireless headphones which I've suddenly lost interest in because my wired headphones connected to my desktop stack are so good.
