Audiophile Thread

After some buying and selling to try out other amps, I have arrived back at what I had in 2017: Schiit Eitr (USB to Coax converter), Schiit Modi Multibit DAC and Schiit Vali 2 hybrid tube headphone amp.

I had to try out other pure solid state amps to have it really hit home that I prefer the sound of a tube amp. It is just so much better to my ears. Worrying about using up tubes and having to buy more is irrelevant when things in this country could go south at any time.

Darn fine setup!

Mikey likes Schiit's ugly turntable.

Addendum: Fremer going into the intricacies of setting up the table make me very thankful that I am digital only.

We troglodytes let perfeshenuls do that schtick.

I'm not interested in such shenanigans, and I have the dosh to pay someone.
At the moment, I just want a turntable of any sort. $1000 is out of question. I just need something that can play vinyl that I can hook up to my home stereo.

A few months ago, I consolidated the vinyl I've accumulated over the past 40 years into a single location. Appropriately, in the bureau upon which sits my stereo. It's not much, probably 100 albums (or album sized singles) and a few less 45rpm singles. Many of these are albums I do not own on CD, thus I haven't listened to them in any format in decades in some instances. It would be a lot cheaper for me to buy an inexpensive turntable than to try to replicate the vinyl on CD.

So, knowing my tolerance for less than audiophile sound via turntable is probably extremely lower (maybe I should say "greater" because I will accept lower quality sound for vinyl, at least for the foreseeable future) compared to you guys, how cheap should I go? My wallet says as low as possible. However, if a $100 craigslist turntable is markedly better than the one below, I could make that jump.

OK, so due to a fire at the AKM plant in Japan, which manufactures Delta Sigma DAC chips and a bunch of other stuff, Jason Stoddard is now saying that the Modi Multibit is no longer cancelled. The MM doesn't use AKM DAC chips.
