If it's Friday, it must be the MG's "60 Years of Great Music" series. Welcome to 1962!
Here's the rules:

Each Friday, I'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2016. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 1962

I easily could have chosen my third Mingus album in four years with Tijuana Moods, but decided to go with a great albums showcasing perhaps my favorite jazz guitarist who works quite well with pianist Evans here. Though the album just has these two players, it never seems too sparse or lacking. Great cover of that chestnut "My Funny Valentine" too. Also a fantastic frameable album cover here using Toni Frisell's photograph "Weeki Wachee Spring, Florida"

Man, this was hard! Another great year of jazz.

I had it down to 2...#2 goes to Coltrane's "Coltrane".

#1 goes to Donald Byrd "The Cat Walk". A cool, swinging, laid back classic (minus the smokin' and oddly titled "Cute")!
