Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 1969

If it's Friday, it must be... the next year in the MG's "60 Years of Great Music" series.
Welcome to 1969!

Here's the rules:

Each Friday, I'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2016. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 1969

The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed

Still add tracks from this one in my playlists for the gym. I also could have picked about 20 of the 30 albums listed.

Alt-prog bias? :D
I think they just lost the algorithm for the moment.

Rhythm-a-Ning

Edit: You are being unduly coy, methinks. Abbey Road has more votes, more reviews, and a slightly higher rating (4.30) than does ItCotCK (4.29).

Lee Morgan - Charisma

Lots of great albums this year, but it was a two-horse race for me. Lee barely nudged the Temptations, partly because this '69 release was recorded a few days after my '66 release from my mother's uterus.

Three brilliant Fairport Convention albums released in one calendar year! But this is my favorite:

I think this is their most representative album. It's got a definitive Dylan cover, the folk arrangements that would be expanded for "Liege & Lief," and my favorite collection of originals. It's got Sandy Denny's timeless voice and Richard Thompson's shiver-inducing guitar. It's darn near perfect.

Leo Kottke- 6 & 12 String Guitar

With so many strong and/or obvious other choices, I figured I select Kottke. His guitar work is just superlative, at times sounding like two people are frenetically playing the same guitar to calm, relaxing pastoral tunes.

Great pick, MH! Love the fist four Fairport Convention albums. Denny's voice is indeed timeless. And good to see you here
