Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 1990

Wow! Another decade reached. Can't believe we're already up to 1990

Here's the next year in our "Great Music" thread

Welcome to 1990!

Here's the rules:

Each Friday (typically) we'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2016. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 1990

The Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker

Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom

An amazing guitarist, his skill is acknowledged by many elders in his field. He tends to perfectionism, which gave him trouble performing concerts and long pauses between releases. However, that also means he'll never dash off an album just to get it to market. A good problem to have, as they say. Cliffs of Dover was a radio hit. I'm told there were two others from this album as well, but I can't place them from memory and I have so many #&@*! meetings today that I can't listen to the album.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Good Son

A few gems out there but on the whole one of the worst all-around years of the 10 yrs before or after. Sure fans of Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, or Depeche Mode may be mad at me as their releases from '91 are loved by those groups. And yes, there are some goodies including some above and others not mentioned (my second choice is a great one by A Tribe Called Quest), but, man, slim pickins left.
Now this one (which will probably be one of several Cave albums picked by me) - Aces!

I thought I already posted my pick, but I guess I forgot, so it's Sinead O'Connor. I'll get a RYM photo up in a bit.

Sinead O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got

Props to Prince for writing the monster single fon this record.
