Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 2011

Gack! I'm way late. Weird week. We're gettin' there though:

Welcome to the next year in our "Great Music" series - 2011

Here's the rules:

Each week, we'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2017. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 2011

Adele - 21

Showing some of my pop leanings by choosing one of the best pop albums of the era. Beautiful voice. allmusic.com says her style evokes Dusty Springfield, and, while no one is gonna dethrone Dusty off of the pedestal I place her on, this could be what draws me to Adele more than other artists of her ilk.
Could have gone Black Keys two years in a row especially as I have begun to enjoy El Camino even more than Brothers in recent years.

Choices, choices...do I pick the new album that I like the most or the collection that was truly the best thing released that year?

I posted this thread late so was hesitant to start next thread - usually like to give people the full week.
We've only had four picks so far - hoping we can get some more picks in the next day before I unleash 2012
Modern music is hard. It takes a while to find something. I measure my status as "fossil" by this situation.

Beirut ~ The Rip Tide

All I can say is, ZeebaNeighba was right the first time we did this exercise.

Wow I clearly missed this one on my list. As Axo indicates it was my #1 pick on the last run. Love it and probably would have picked it had I realized. Happy it got chosen

Samantha Fish - Runaway

Debut album from a wonderful blues guitarist and singer. Her career is in overdrive these days. On her debut, her guitar work is really good and her voice is decent. In her past two albums (2017) her vocals have become much more sophisticated. She's been working hard.

Went with the collection/archival release.

The Beach Boys - The Smile Sessions

The giant box version is the only version that matters.
