Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 2013

Welcome to the year 2013 in our "Great Music" series.

Here's the rules:

Each week, we'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2017. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 2013.

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Made Up Mind

In their first release back in 2011, Tedeschi Trucks Band put out a good album, but it seemed to be looking for a direction. In this, their 2013 release, they seem to have decided "Direction? We don' need no steenkin' direction." Taking on diversity like a squad of tank commanders, they execute Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Folk and whatever else they decided to play in winning form.

Lorde - Pure Heroine

Wasn't crazy about this when it was first released, but it has grown on me a lot over the last few years. Just a stunning album...and her second one blows it out of the water.

Same for me. Royals was interesting but only as a novelty and the album didn't do much for me. Recently Spotify suggested a track off her new album and I liked it. So I listened to the whole album and enjoyed it. Then I went back and listened to this first one and realized I enjoyed it too.

Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer Different Park

Don't know what to say. She is extremely talented. Her songs are great. Her music is excellent. Give her a listen.

Just a few more years in the series (I think we were gonna finish with 2016 - though we could do 2017) - let's finish up strong! :)
