Music Reviews

"Another awsome album from trapt but this was better this was a strong effort they put into these songs and great alternative/rock. This was better then there first this album was more rock then there first, there first album had great rock but some songs was'nt as rock hard like this album was but both of there albums were great but this was awsome."

In contrast, here is another take:

This band is terrible. Sorry but I'm being a hater. It's truly generic hard rock that makes nickelback seem like rockin innovators. This was made for the radio in 2005 and that's where it should stay.

Does it really matter what it is? Not to me.

"Their sound is one of the best examples of Nineties indie alt-rock, and, especially for those that were twenty-somethings around '92, this is fun. "Somebody to Shove" is a gem, or at least fool's gold. "Black Gold" and "Runaway Train" offer charmingly puerile entertainment. The others have great melodies and hackneyed lyrics that ensure them nice pyrite thrones in celebration of their irrefutable pop-corn status. And there's nothing wrong with that."

IYCNFIO:
Soul Asylum ~ Grave Dancers Union

This review is full of left-handed compliments poured out like condiments. Thus, it's an ideal reflection of the sentiments from "Somebody to Shove."

I liked that album during the 90s. I listened to it again a couple of years ago and I was, WTF was I thinking?

I did, too. I suggested it to someone in about 1995, and they wondered aloud whether it would have the staying power of, say, a Tom Petty, with which someone else had compared it.

Like a moron, I said, Yes. That's because I did not understand either the power or influence of Tom Petty's music.

Since that time, I do not comment on albums.

ETA: Wait a moment. I forgot that this is all I do.

Something has gone wrong in life when one sits in the semi-darkness of autumnal Melbourne, listening glumly to Lobgesang – a potboiler by any measure - as time winds down and irreparably so. What went awry? Was there a derailment? A poor choice of vocation? Marrying the wrong consort?

Make no mistake, listening to Opus 52 is a one-way ticket to the Inner Station, however that is defined. Or it could be a mutation of the Yellow Brick Road, paved with good intentions that lead to a certain destination in the Underworld. After all, who can encompass such balderdash? Not even the proximity of Easter provides any impetus. Trust me on this: someone at Deutsche Grammophon must’ve had some incriminating photos of Herbie on the Eastern Front to compel him to record this stinker. That the Berlin Philharmonic of the day was able to sustain its trademark intensity throughout is a cause of wonder. Pity the soloists. Where do their bones lie?

We close with a paraphrase of Jorges Luis Borges.

“Whoever has listened to Lobgesang, whoever has beheld the piety of its rubrics, cannot think in terms of one man, of that man’s trivial fortunes or misfortunes, though he be that very man. That man . . . . now matters no more to him. . . This is why I do not pronounce the spell, why, lying here in the darkness, I let the days obliterate me.”

I did not order this, Nor did I receive it.

My comment: If you had not paid for it, you'd have a trifecta.

Someone hacked his account and had the CD (?) sent to an address of their choice.

Little disappointed

Was disappointed with this CD simply because it is more modern jazz than I care for. Oh well, win a few and lose a few. The price couldn't be beat and the service was very prompt. Item in excellent condition.

This reviewer must have some "kick against modern jazz." Interesting, as this is not Jazz at all, but rather World Music.

So, this falls into the category of: Tell me you don't know a thing about Jazz without telling me you don't know a thing about Jazz.

Into the Mystic, by Various Artists

I heard Various Artists broke up last year.

This review is actually helpful.

For the record designated as:

Le Slatkin
Russian Showpie

The review indicates:

The correct title is "Leonard Slatkin conducts Russian Showpieces".

Mussorgsky-Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition
Prokofiev: Classical Symphony in D
Stravinsky: Fireworks
Khachaturian: Gayne: Sabre Dance
Kabalevsky: The Comedians

I'm bummed. I really wanted to hear Le Slatkin's Russian Showpie.

"I find it interesting that Nick Laird-Clowes name does not appear once on this CD - not even in the liner notes. Almost as if he didn't want to [ruin] his reputation... I gave this CD one star - which it deserves. The song "Girl I Used 2 Know" isn't bad. But everything else on this CD is far below the standards I would have expected. Based on the quality of the 3 Dream Academy releases, I had high expectations for "Trashmonk". I was greatly disappointed. Where Dream Academy was melodic and pleasing to the ear, Trashmonk is dark, foreboding, and unapproachable. Where Dream Academy thrills with rich harmonies, tight arrangements, and almost flawless production, this recording chills with an obnoxious, fingernails on the chalkboard sound that I would not inflict upon my worst enemy. If you're a Dream Academy fan, hoping for a small taste of their old sound, look elsewhere - you won't find anything remotely like it here. However if you're a fan of some of Pink Floyd's darker moments, this recording might interest you."

Trashmonk: Mona Lisa Overdrive

This deep downvote makes me want to hear it, at least once.

I know this this C is great but I accidentally sent it to the wrong house and the person who received it wouldn't return it. So I never received the CD. Grrrr. Regardless, It's a great album and I think any real music love would love to have this in their collection.

Hey, they can't all be 5-star reviews, even if it is listed as a 5-star review.

This was written by an unacclaimed man of letters. He's missing some of them right here in his review, plus he's missing the CD because, well, he sent it to the wrong house. I mean, haven't we all done that? Then, the guy won't return it; I mean... seriously, WTH, man?
