Random Food Thoughts

A nice piece about a local shop continuing to keep quahoggers working during these times. Andrade's is about 5 minutes from me, and I love going there because he always has interesting seafood, not just the regular stuff. Now that I know he's doing more great things to help out the local economy, I am going to be sure to visit his shop more often.

Trivia thread or Bistro? Ah well - will put these here from the latest World Cuisine series at the online Learned League

Got them all!
In our former incarnation, there was a member who said he wanted to try balut. Hmm. I like to try all sorts of things, but that is a pass for me!
And as far as Vegemite is concerned? The real version is SWISS! It is called Cernovis and was developed as a side product from breweries. We bought a tube of it on our last visit. A dark spread? Must be tasty! Yeah, it tastes like a cross between yeast and beef bullion cubes.
Never had Lutefisk, and never want to. Jelly-like fish? Nah.
HEY! I HAVE had huitlacoche in Mexico City! We went to visit old, family friends who lived there in the 80s and it was a popular street food. The vendors would cook who corn cobs in hot sauce and them serve it with crumbled cheese and lime juice. So, so good! But the "corn smut" (as it is known here) ? Cooked in the same bath. It tastes like corny mushrooms. And when simmered in hot sauce and then sprinkled with cheese and lime juice? HELL YEAH!
I make my own garam masala and send out packets of it for people who have drab palates.
And sorry, while the individual ingredients are all great, for some reason I never got into chimichurri sauce.

^
you even got the one about Happy Pizza
Oh, Nicky...for tsk tsk ;)

I knew about Balut but couldn’t place the name - I’ve seen it eaten on some Andrew Zimmer episode. Yuck!

My wife found a recipe for vegan kimchi on-line and we made a batch of it. It is in the crock now and will ferment for a few days, then we will test it to see if it's far enough along with tang and bite. I must admit, it smells fantastic right out of the gate!
