Random Music Thoughts

:(

Key quote:

“Gerald Seligman, executive director of the National Recording Preservation Foundation, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Library of Congress, estimated in 2013 that less than 18 percent of commercial music archives had been transferred and made available through streaming and download services.”

Having moved into the house about a month ago, I worked in the home office for the first time today. As I set up the small computer speakers I realized -- I bought this place. I'm going to be here a while. I can set up a decent sound system in my office! Maybe I'll even sign up for Tidal!

I had a blissful moment of joy until I remembered all the money I spent on my deposit and then my tax bill, plus money I need to spend for things like blinds and some furniture I need to buy. It was a wonderful moment though.
Action is preceded by planning, planning is preceded by hope. You're on the right path.

Well, I am back to using Spotify. Apple Music is a disaster with large local libraries. It integrates them with Apple Music through iCloud Music Library. It's complicated, buggy and slow if you already have a large collection.

I tried very hard to make it work, but in the end, I gave up in frustration. Spotify is much, much better for my use case.

And as a parting gift, I was unable to sync my local music manually to my iPhone after canceling Apple Music. I had to delete everything on my phone and re-sync. By delete everything, I mean MY music that I had on my phone before I subscribed to Apple Music.

Sounds sucky.

Apple Music is 4 years old. I'm shocked that Apple hasn't improved its use with large existing libraries. Or maybe they're focusing on Gen Z that only has around 2,000 tracks in their collection (or maybe all streaming with 0 tracks owned).
Got it.

How long did this process take you to accomplish?
