Without having seen it, let me guess: more R 'n' B, Soul and Hip Hop, less Rock.

Well, you are more than half-right, or less than half-right (I can't do the maths, 'coz maths iz hard.)

The second paragraph reveals the following modus operandi:

Nearly 4,000 songs received votes. Where the 2004 version of the list was dominated by early rock and soul, the new edition contains more hip-hop, modern country, indie rock, Latin pop, reggae, and R&B. More than half the songs here — 254 in all — weren’t present on the old list, including a third of the Top 100. The result is a more expansive, inclusive vision of pop, music that keeps rewriting its history with every beat.

I haven't analyzed the list in full (though I certainly will) but it's a fun diversity - nice mix of old and new. It still bothers me in theory that there are such big shifts - I have no problem with newer songs by, say, Lizzo or Kanye making this list but I do find it odd that a song that was in the top few hundred 15 yrs ago now has dropped off entirely - have that many "classics" been made in that time? Does that once awesome song suck more now? There's no easy way around it - I love diversity in music and like newer music but hate the idea of replacing good older songs - of course, duh, that's how lists work :)

Of course, that's my attitude when my son discusses his high school's required reading - we're reading Cisneros' The House on Mango Street.
Me: That's great! Great book. Are you reading Catcher in the Rye too
No, we're reading Mango Street instead
Me: I'm not sure why your class can't read both
But that's more work. With all our math and science, no time
Me: sigh :(

Maybe boring people will listen to the list and rank it by personal taste.
