Do younger people even know/listen to Roxy Music or The Zombies anymore - hopefully, someone will say "Never heard of them" but look at the hot model on the album cover (of Roxy Music) and give one of their classics a spin.
On the
Golic and Wingo broadcast this morning, they could come up with songs for all the inductees with the exception of Roxy Music. When a list of three hits was read, they didn't know a single one of them.
What was surprising to me was that, among the three songs on the list, there was no "Love is the Drug" or "Virginia Plain."
Thinking more about the Stevie Nicks choice, and I think I'm minimizing Nicks influence on more modern artists.
I'm just gratified that you are having second thoughts about Stevie Nicks and her influence on music. I would think that her influence would be more second- or third-tier, well behind forces of nature like Dolly, Linda, and Emmylou, not to mention the more traditional female country artists like Patsy, Tammy, and Dusty. I'm sure I've missed a few, but even putting Stevie in the mix seems a little premature. Sure, "Landslide" is a beautiful song, but you know....
I heard a similar argument on another sports program yesterday, with Tony LaRussa downplaying the proposed induction voting for Harold Baines and saying that, if you are going to push the criteria ever lower, one needs to reconsider Steve Garvey.
Different
Halls of Fame, but still...
