Random Music Thoughts

The mind is an incredible thing. Despite not hearing the song in 30+ years, Paul Davis' "'65 Love Affair" popped into my head today (and stayed for awhile). An inconsequential but catchy blue-eyed soul ditty from 1982, it was indeed a top 10 hit. Have no idea what triggered it in my consciousness, and, actually, surprised I haven't heard it on SiriusXM 80s station in recent years

The above story (yes, I'm referencing my own post) actually brings up memories of songs from an era that suddenly pop up out of nowhere on satellite radio when you haven't heard those songs on radio in AGES. A couple of years ago, flipping through stations and heard Blotto's "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard" which, prior to that, I had not heard since the 1980s. Blotto was an Albany-based group with goofy songs that Dr. Demento sometimes played. "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard" was in rotation in the earliest day of MTV (Wiki says it was a first day video actually). It's not particularly a good song - it's really dumb
What always intrigues me is I had not heard on Sirius XM/other radio since the early 1980s until that one time 3 years ago then haven't heard it since. I'm actually surprised sometimes such songs which did achieve a certain degree of popularity don't make the cut with satellite radio algorithms

Another example: A really good pop/new wave song I love from that era was The Monroes "That's What All the People Say" - I have never heard that song on the radio since (though it happily has a place in my big 80s playlist so I do hear it)

What am I rambling about and why? I dunno. Bit of a boring day I reckon

I would have agreed with that assessment before the flood of authorized live recordings began. Only American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are really essential listening. But I can't count the number of times that I have been blown away by the flow and beauty of a show from one of the innumerable nights they were really on their game. And they just keep a comin', with the Dave's Picks series now nearing 40 volumes. When he wasn't overly fried, no one could play like Garcia.

Any idea why this track sounds so familiar to me? Like it's based on an American track. The synth line reminds me of "Poker Face" by Lady Ga Ga, but it's more than just that. What track does it remind you of?

A truly random music thought:

“You know, I guess I would ask you — because I’m addicted to truth, logic and common sense — and my common-sense meter would demand the answer to why weren’t we shut down for COVID one through 18?” Nugent added.

“COVID-1 — and there was a COVID two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 — COVID one through 18 didn’t shut anything down but woah, COVID-19!” he mocked.

ETA: The only thing he proved is that he can count close to 20 without removing his shoes and socks.
