Just heard on the news that Ringo and Barry Gibb have been knighted.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. It struck a chord for me. (No pun intended. Well, maybe.) I completely sympathize with his exasperation about trying to consume an endless buffet of available music. It seems like the artists should get more respect than a quick listen and off to the next thing. Thanks, OUT, that was the most interesting article I've read so far this year. And the author peforms music as Wooden Wand.
About a year ago I asked my gf if she was interested in seeing Neil when he came through our town. She replied "How could you not be interested?" I bought good seats. He's not exactly my kind of music but regardless I enjoyed the show and I'm glad to have had the experience to have gone to a guy's show who's been wowing audiences for 50 years. I shall raise a glass to him tonight.Neil Diamond Retires From Touring After Parkinson’s Diagnosis

Well said.Just getting to this - don't know why I waited so long. Guess I was busy trying to fruitlessly get through a lifetime of music. Articulates far better than I ever could the thought I've been ranting about to my wife, son, anyone who listens for years. Music is plentiful and easy but the absence of hunting for a disc diligently, choosing carefully what one is going to buy, and investing time in dissecting an album suffers with today's listeners (and lets face it, with me too). Is this the reason I haven't heard an album that excites me with the same ferocity as albums of my youth or is it just being older, stodgier and too fixed in my ways to embrace new music as intensely. Who knows? Probably both. Still a great read
And love a man who puts together a good music listening project for himself![]()

Music, that is.I don't know that jazz is the largest interest here, but peoplehere that like jazz tend to post a lot. Maybe that's why it looks like that. I like jazz a lot too, but it is not my favorite music genre. And as far as contemporary Country music goes, I am not well versed in it, as it isn't a style I really like. When I was a kid, though, I had a Roy Rogers album and kids collection of traditional country/cowboy songs which I loved. Today, every so often a band or performer comes along that catches my ear and then I am surprised to hear it called "Country" music. It's a wider genre than I give it credit. Maybe we should start a "School Me in Country" thread. Let's start with the yodeling cowboys (yes, I do like that styleIt seems like here on the New 'Gourmets jazz seems to be the genre for which the largest number of members share an interest. Is that true?
Just thought about that because lately I've sampled a little more Country music than usual. (Granted, mostly that hybrid Americana/Country.) And except for a little Dwight Yokum on the Great Music of 19xx topics, I don't think I've seen anyone dip their toe in that water.
