This thread was buried. So I had the good (no, GREAT) fortune of seeing Jesus And Mary Chain with NIN last night at my favorite concert venue. F'ing amazing show!!

First: TOBACCO - Had never heard of them. The main guy in it is also from Black Moth Super Rainbow (yeah, don't know them, either). Was expecting nothing but was VERY pleasantly surprised...they were really good! Dark, heavy electronic music with imagery on their screens that will haunt me til the day I die (Pokemon and weird alien porn, anyone?).
Second: Jesus And Mary Chain - OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply amazing...needed to play another couple hours...glorious, beautiful noise. William Reid is a monster on that guitar!
Third: NIN - Heavy, intense, dark, heavy, intense, heavy...did I mention they were really heavy? I knew they would be good but had no idea just what I was truly in for. Wish into March Of The Pigs was so brutal...a concert moment (well several minutes rather than just a moment) that I will never forget. Here's the setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/nine-inch-nails/2018/orpheum-theatre-memphis-tn-33e9c049.html

This was filmed pretty darn close to where I was.

Stock up on earplugs to protect your hearing.

Hey, I'm back! Tix to see Rayland Baxter tonight.
Great show, though he didn't play the first song I heard by him (79 Shiny Revolvers)! Got a set list:) and when we left, Rayland was outside and we chatted briefly...yes, I expressed my dismay over not hearing that song and he apologized! If I had a sharpie, or even a pen I would've asked him to sign the set list :(

Paul McCartney concert last night - really a great show. He had a great easygoing rapport with the audience and several times told stories (watching Jimi Hendrix in London in 1967 when Hendrix asked Clapton to come up from audience to tune his guitar; recording "Love Me Do" with George Martin).
A LOT of Beatles songs - not just "Let It Be", "Lady Madonna", and "Hey Jude" as expected but "Back in the USSR", "Ob-la-De, Ob-La-Da", "From Me to You", "Birthday", "Helter Skelter" and even "I Got a Feeling" off Let It Be. Ended with a great Golden Slumbers medley. Some new songs several of which (the cheeky "Fuh You") really had great melodies.
Flames and explosions on stage for "Live and Let Die" - thought he was gonna catch on fire. He joked afterward how it was too loud

Actually welled up during "Let It Be" not really because of the lyrics per se. Although classical music can get me emotional, I never get teary at rock concerts. And yet, I was there with my kids and realized we were seeing a connection to important music development, history. For some reason (not to get all sappy) at that moment I felt how important not just Beatles music has been to me (even remembering the Beatles on the radio as a very young kid only years after their breakup when everyone hoped there would be a reunion) but really music in general.

A LOT of Beatles songs...

I'm mostly interested in smaller acts but I've wanted to catch some of the old stars before they fade away. And the girlfriend really loves to see old 70's bands.

We saw Bob Seger and he was all about telling stories about his songs and his history. He played about 2-1/2 hours including 2 encores. All he played was the old hits save for one or two songs from later albums. That's what his audience came to hear. We were all there because we loved him during the mullet phase, not because we wanted to be pumped for a new album. He got that and had fun with it.

Marshall Tucker was the same way. They played all the hits. And even though there's only one guy left from their heyday, he told a lot of stories and was clearly having the time of his life -- we could all feel it.

Journey didn't tell any stories, didn't relate to the audience. A good third of the show was songs from their new album. Their concert was a dud.

I appreciate when older bands acknowledge that even though they've been playing those same songs for 40 years, for any particular audience, it may be the first time we've experienced it live, or the first time in 40 years. So it's special for us even if it's not for them.

I'm glad you got to see McCartney, especially with your kids. Sounds like a great concert and a standout moment in your life.
