Al Jolson - Overseas (1959)

These are not studio recordings but transcriptions from Al's tenure on the Kraft Music Hall radio show. Many songs are included that he never recorded commercially. Al is in fine form, making this Decca LP an excellent place to explore his comeback years. It's available on CD from the International Al Jolson Society, of which I am a card-carrying member.

Love Jolson, a love I inherited from my day (gee, I'm reminiscing a lot about him today here). The Jolson Story was one of his favorite movies (and he was a guy with good cinematic taste but couldn't pass up even a cheesy Hollywood biopic about good ol' Al).
I didn't even know there was an International Al Jolson Society or I would join. Jealous as always, Sam

(talking about Jolson makes me aware that I've really not seem much be Jolie on the 6000 Songs countdown - I'm thinking one song so far if memory serves me correctly. Injustice!)
