Wurld Series - What's Growing (2021)

Indie rock from New Zealand. Pitchfork sez:

On What’s Growing, their second album, Wurld Series shake off the lo-fi trappings of their early work, further exposing the wit and ingenuity of Towart’s lyricism and, in the process, distinguishing themselves as a band more thoughtful—and more pleasantly looney—than your average ’90s revivalists.

With each song, I become more enamored of the crunchy guitars and offbeat lyrics. This one definitely deserves another spin, and soon!

Have done pretty well with my yearling listening for 2011, so a bit of a late day jazz diversion to wind down

Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again (rec. 1936-43, ASV LIving Era comp. 1994)

R-11716602-1521471451-9386.jpeg.jpg

This collection gathers two dozen of Dame Vera's earliest sides, waxed when she was as young as 19. Her voice, like the photo used for the cover, reveals a woman wise beyond her years, balancing emotional vulnerability against the wistfulness of sad experience. Many of these songs were re-recorded over the years but these are the originals released up through the middle of WWII, including "We'll Meet Again" backed only by Arthur Young's Novachord (the first synthesizer).
