Since I was away last week, have been doing the next yearly playlist - 1979
Though I must say, the usually fierce Pismo Beach trivia team captained by yours truly, did come in 3rd as opposed to higher in a recent city trivia championship - good performance but pub trivia these days is very millennial focused. As much as I try to keep up on trivia, I definitely have missed my share of Full House questions
But we missed a Katie Perry Song, a Lady Gaga song, and an All American Rejects song - making me certainly realize that maybe I should throw in some more recent music (at least within the past 20 years) every now and then
Else I'm going to be like The Waco Kid in Blazing Saddles
A fairly early album by the other Bruce - you know, the Canadian one. It has his trademark semi-quavering voice (not female voice as suggested in the RYM entry for this album) and solid guitar work. I only figured out how good his guitar finger work is after listening to his Speechless: The Instrumental Bruce Cockburn that came out in 2005; perhaps I should have caught on sooner than that.
Cortelia was the Nashville antecedent of Ted Hawkins. Producer Felton Jarvis recorded this one in the street outside the Pancake Pantry. However, he thought there wasn't enough ambience so he overdubbed Jerry Reed and Norro Wilson blowing their horns and skidding their tires in the parking lot of RCA's legendary Studio B.
Looks like it's the next week for the Annual Playlist - today 1980
