Andrew Hill - Black Fire _1964_
Hill may be pianist I like the most that I don't listen to near enough. For whatever reasons, his work connects with me -- aside from quality or whatnot. The style, the compositions, the ... something ... reaches me.
Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes (2014) and American Beauty (2014)
Well, over 800 tracks later, finally coming to the end of my Chronological Springsteen listening - listened to every official album, EP, outtakes collection and "archive" concert release. Complete? Well sort of - Bruce has released every concert over the past 2 years on downloads, though they're not part of his Archive series. Over the next week, I am gonna listen to downloads of a concert from his High Hopes tour and two from his River Anniversary Tour (some of the one's I've attended).
High Hopes and the 4 song EP American Beauty (released for Record Store Day) are "odds and sods" releases - decent but, I would not say, spectacular. Still there's some interesting stuff as some recordings include Bruce's collaborations with Tom Morello (who would join him on tour as Little Steven was doing Netflix's Lillehammer). Also some cool covers of songs by groups as diverse as Suicide, The Saints and The Havalinas along with some studio takes on previously released numbers like "41 Shots (American Skin)".
Margot (who is still alive and well at age 98) was a prominent German film actress, starring in 30+ films from the 30's on. This Bear Family comp is not on Spotify but here's an example of her work:
2 200 gram superheavyweight vinyl + a CD transfer of the original master+ 16 page book
the sound of the remaster , which was cut from the original stereo master, is stunning...and I also picked up the similar box for Skylarking
