This album is quite reviled, but I've liked it every time I've listened to it.

Like an actor that gets tied to a film genre, it seems like "The Freshmen" made it difficult for them to move on to anything else.

"Photograph" was a great single, too.

John Coltrane - Live Trane: The European Tours (rec. 1961-63, rel. 2001)

This 7 disc collection of John Coltrane's concert recordings documents his ascension in 2 short years from star to legend. These shows contains some of his finest performances with the classic quartet: McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Jimmy Garrison. Maybe the most jaw-dropping of these is Trane's 5 minute unaccompanied solo on "I Want To Talk About You" from Stockholm on October 22, 1963. Hear it for yourself:
