What Are You Listening To? August 2019

It looks interesting based on the name and the cover. But as we know, you can’t judge a book....:judge:
It's so close to being interesting. Mindi Abair is a singer and saxophonist. She came from a jazz background but has moved to blues rock. Her band is decent. Mindi's a good singer and player. The band is perfectly fine if you like that genre. It's just that there's very little to distinguish them from the crowd. The songs are competently written and performed, they're just not very unique. They don't have much personality. And I would have given more focus for Mindi's sax. It would have given them a sound to stand out a little bit.

I'll give it another chance some time soon. I listen at work and get distracted from the music, so I may miss some important elements.

Been awhile

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)

After seeing the Peleton commercial featuring Lauryn's vocals for the 100th time, I figured I'd delight the kids with hearing the entire song and album. I snatched this off the shelf before the morning ride to school(s).

After skimming through ^ and not hearing the song in question, I realized the commercial's snippet was from a different album. So, before going to pick up the kids from school yesterday, I put this in the car ...

The Fugees - The Score (1996)

ETA: Although the paragraph above this album cover insinuates we did not listen to Lauryn's solo album, we did. AND WE ENJOYED IT! :worm:

Mono ~ Formica Blues (1997)

My take, full of meaningless drivel: This might have been one of the earlier releases I received via Lala. I didn't like it all, probably because I was expecting something from MONO, the Japanese post-rock outfit. I shipped it away.

My musical persepectives have opened up substantially. This is quite good Trip-hop, Downtempo, with lovely female vocals.

One band should open up for the other to totally confuse people.
