Art Blakey - Free For All(1965)
ETA: This might just be my favorite Jazz Messengers lineup of all time. And as it nears the end of song 3, I'm wondering if I need to bump it a half-star up to the full monty. It sounds so .... powerful, like trying to wrestle a python. Phenomenal.
this album is groovy as fuck. fuckin funky powerful shit. amazing compositions. everyone's on point. cookin' hard. AND WOODY SHAW IS SO PERFECT IN THIS OH GOD. he really is the man.
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Live at Woodstock (2019 release)
Reportedly CCR didn't like their Woodstock set too much, but their hour-long set seen here rocks pretty hard. Getting some good reviews so thought I'd check it out.
Week 3 of my promise to listen to a 2019 album per week. Wanted to be cheeky and count the 2019 CCR at Woodstock release as my new album, but I kept honest. And despite my love of both red hair and breasts, that's not why I chose this one - familiar with Jenny Lewis from her wonderful 2006 Rabbit Fur Coat album. Appears on a couple of Best of 2019 So Far lists I've read.
