What Are You Listening To? August 2021

That wasn't on later releases? I didn't know that. Why? Because it has Muslim chanting?

From Wiki:
Soon after the album was released, the Islamic Council of Great Britain objected to the use of samples of Qur'anic recital in the track "Qu'ran", considering it blasphemy. Byrne and Eno removed the track from later pressings.[16][17] In 2006, Byrne said:

We thought, "Okay, in deference to somebody's religion, we'll take it off." You could probably argue for and against monkeying with something like that. But I think we were certainly feeling very cautious about this whole thing. We made a big effort to try and clear all the voices, and make sure everybody was okay with everything ... So I think in that sense we reacted maybe with more caution than we had to.[16]

Welcome to morning maniac music!
It's a new dawn

Yep it's August 15 and the 52nd anniversary of Woodstock so I've started my 21 hour Woodstock playlist (taken from the set Woodstock 50 - Back to the Garden) and various individual artist releases of their sets.

So just finished the opener Richie Havens and on to Sweetwater (the original festival opener - stuck in traffic they arrived by helicopter and Havens stepped in to open the concert)

Does the Woodstock anniversary occur several times a year?

August 16 - continuing my Woodstock listening as we get into Saturday at the festival
Unfortunately when I did this two years ago, I forget how a more extended listening format has its downside - some of the acts at Woodstock had sets that were endless (Tim Harding's long blues/folk workouts, apparently delayed on Friday, because he was so baked they had to wait until he sobered up just a bit, was particularly painful).

Saturday starts out with Quill and Country Joe MacDonald until Santana's blistering set (done prior to the release of his debut so East-coast listeners had no idea what was coming). Carlos Santana thought they were going on later that day so took a hit of mescaline only to be told the group was needed earlier (I'm sensing a theme here).

Currently mired a bit in a slow portion (John Sebastian's dated flower-power comments, Keef Hartley Band, Incredible String Band)
Canned Heat and Mountain on the way

Also forgot many of these sets include numbers/jabs that run 10-20 minues (Keef Hartley 18 minute number, Canned Heat's "Woodstock Boogie" 30 minutes (!), The Dead's "Dark Star"19 min)

No way I get through this unless I extend to 4 days of listening (and hey, Hendrix ended 11 am on Monday (day 4)) so it would still be official :)

Day 3 of my Woodstock listening and as above, miles to go in my playlist. Still as I mentioned concert didn't end until Day 4 so gonna keep going until I finish tomorrow

Today's listening:
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Janis Joplin
Sly and the Family Stone
The Who
Jefferson Airplane
Joe Cocker

CCR, Sly and the Airplane especially gave blistering sets
Funniest moment was Abby Hoffman trying to protest the arrest of poet John Sinclair during the Who's set and Townsend hitting him with a guitar, kicking off the stage with a "Fuck off my fucking stage!"
