Steve Conway - Best Of All (rec. 1945-52, Sepia comp. 2003)

Steve (born Walter James Groom) was a British crooner in the vein of Dick Haymes. He landed a recording contract in 1945 at age 25 but died just 7 years later. His output during the post-war era as collected here shows him to be a masterful interpreter of romantic ballads.

Grateful Dead - View From The Vault IV (rec. 1987, rel. 2003)

For the final entry (so far) in their series of concert videos, the Dead selected the last two shows from their brief tour with Bob Dylan. The Grateful Dead sets are complete, but the Bobster refused permission to release his performance at all. Fortunately it is available out there in Internetland.

The first show from Oakland Stadium on July 24, 1987 finds Jerry and the boys in good form. They tear through their two solo sets with (for them) a minimum of jamming, only "Playing In The Band" running more than 10 minutes. With Bob Dylan waiting in the wings, the band obviously wanted to keep things moving in order to build the anticipation for the climactic third set. The result is a show that is more focused than usual for the Dead during this time period.

:4.0: on the Sam-O-Meter.

You are most welcome. I think you would like their earlier albums more than their later (mid-ish 80s) stuff, when they became very ......80s. The albums "Systems of Romance" and "Vienna" are my favorites, but they might be to synthy for your tastes.
There's a dual CD set entitled Ultravox Extended that was released this year. I have not heard it yet; I saw it in a store in Pasadena on Friday.

I await Nick's report and assessment of it. :judge-y-gavel-guy:
