My daughter and I were talking about music that doesn't distract you when working or studying. She loves her Philip Glass. He's a little too far out there for me. But on good faith I tried this recommendation and am enjoying it so far. Well, I'm on Etude #1 of 20 but I'm going to be optimistic.

Described as Post-Rock, this does not do it for me. Average to the point of mediocrity.

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-68 (boxed set)

Heard a cover of "Havin' A Party" last night and had that good-time party singalong feeling. So decided to break out the ol' Nuggets boxed set today (everyone should do so once a year - doctor's order). Transported back to a time in the 60s where local bands would lug their amps and Hammond organs to parties, high school dances, and VFW halls to do covers of "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" and "I Want Candy" (granted that "time" was before my time but who cares)

Was riding with my son and Led Zeppelin was on in the car last night - explained to him how when I was in college, a 20 minute version of "Dazed and Confused" seemed like the coolest thing, musicians stretching out and expressing themselves. But I've said it before here, as I've aged, I'm all the more impressed by the overwhelming power of the 3-minute single - and this box set is full of such power :)

A friend invited me to see a Zac Brown cover band at a local venue I've been wanting to try. I texted that I would, but I had tickets to Taj Mahal that night. She replied, "Is that a play?"
Dear me. Thank you for being music people.

I honestly don't know where Taj's career wandered between the '70's and the '10's. But I know I love this album so I'll just start here...

WTF the first track actually has a kazoo.

Like a review I read said, this would fit on the Nuggets' box set.

I'm not a big fan of solo McCartney, but I haven't heard his stuff in a while and thought I'd give this a try. Thing is, I'm working and can't focus on lyrics. I have a feeling I'll have to listen again to get it.

Initial impression: This is no Detroit Cobras album.
