Los Angeles Philharmonic (Esa-Pekka Salonen, cond.) - Live From Walt Disney Concert Hall: Hindemith-Wagner (2011)
These two composers are a strange pairing, but then we do love our eclectic repertoire here in El Lay. A fine entry in the extensive DG Concerts series: lively performances in stunning sound to go with the interesting choice of material.
Karl Richter - J.S. Bach: The Organ Concertos (1974)
Masterworks performed by the leading exponent of Johann Sebastian Bach in the 20th Century. Bach wrote these pieces for solo organ. However, they are called "concertos" because he transcribed them from orchestral concertos by Vivaldi and others. They were written in 1713-14 so Richter's selection of a Swiss organ built in 1761 was perfect. DG honored the prolific artist with one of its gorgeous "complete works" box sets in 2020, running to 97 CD's.
