Aileen Stanley - Popular 1920's Jazz Vocals (rec. 1924-1930, comp. 2014)

This vaudevillian sold so many discs for the Victor Talking Machine Company that she was known as "The Phonograph Girl". Her winsome coquettish style splits the difference between Fanny Brice and Helen "Betty Boop" Kane.

John Scofield - Country For Old Men 2016

Ostensibly a album of jazz covers of country classics (George Jones, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Bob Wills, etc) this seems to me to be as much country as jazz. So much so that I can see Jazz purists being disappointed with it, and Country music fans turning it off mid-album. I love it. A wonderful mix!

After following the Jazz Funk of the Headhunters with the Jazz Country of Old Men, I'm thinking it's now time for some Jazz Klezmer. Oh, where to look ...

Spike Jones & His City Slickers - Musical Depreciation Revue: The Anthology (1994)

How can you beat a 2 disc collection assembled by Doctor Demento and Cub "Smokin' In The Boys Room" Koda?

I have that anthology myself (though haven't broken it out in awhile). My dad was a big Spike Jones fan, and I bought this (at the time) only knowing one or two of the songs on the two disc set. Lots of fun surprises.
