The Future Sound of London ~ Lifeforms [Single] (1994)

40 minutes (or so) of Ambient Techno and IDM remixes of a single song. None of them are repetitive, and all of them are quite good.

Plus, they have Elizabeth Fraser on vocals. I dare you to beat that with a stick.

Woody Herman - In Disco Order Vol. 21 (rec. 1946, Ajazz comp. 1981)

Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

Woody moves effortlessly between the avant garde (Stravinsky's "Ebony Concerto") and standard big band fare ("Romance In The Dark"). His topnotch ork at the time included legit jazzers like Shorty Rogers, Pete Candoli and Flip Phillips. Woody seemed far more comfortable juggling these disparate styles than Stan Kenton, who always acted like he resented the dancers who braved his shows.

The Crooked Brothers ~ Deathbed Pillowtalk (2009)

Weird as folk-y roots Canadiana

ETA:
Who says you can't choose your family? The Crooked Brothers are kindred, no question.

Their blend of timeless country classic sounds, back porch blues and stomping scrap yard funk has gained the attention of many folk festival and roots music fans both live and on their carefully crafted albums. As with Deathbed Pillowtalk (2009), their sophomore release Lawrence, Wheres Your Knife? (2011) was self-produced and recorded in a small cabin over a cold Manitoban winter. From the very first track on Lawrence, the Brothers are quick to let us know this is not going to be just another folk album.

I haven't listened to that in ages. I am going to rectify that today.
