Nicole Atkins - Goodnight Rhonda Lee

A different album for her. Chris Isaak wrote some songs and she moved to Nashville.

Kowloon Walled City - Gambling on the Richter Scale

Such a classic; I was fortunate to have picked up a clear copy of the Gilead reissue this year. I have to admit that the last album of theirs, Grievances, was something of a disappointment. And Turk St. blows them all away!

Artie Shaw - More Last Recordings (rec. 1954, comp. 1993)

Artie Shaw hung up his clarinet abruptly in 1954, saying "There comes a time when you say 'wait a minute, I've done about all I can do with this.'" His final recorded performances here belie that dire assessment. These songs were made for Verve with a small group that included Hank Jones, Tal Falow and Joe Roland. They show his ability to adapt to modern trends including bop without surrendering his integrity.
