LNZNDRF ~ LNZNDRF (2016)

Indie Rock, Krautrock, Psychedelic Rock

I do think that this release might have fared better without its association to The National.

Damned National-ists! Screwing up things for everybody since 2016!

***

An album that is very close to the above within my collection, since my collection is all askew but alphabetical:

Logh ~ A Sunset Panorama (2005)

Indie Rock, Post Rock, Slowcore

I don't think I did a best-of-2018 list, but if I ever do this will rank highly. It's hard for me to rank this because there is no single spectacular facet of this album. But taken as a whole, it is something I can (and have) listen to repeatedly with comfort and simple deep enjoyment. It's like this takes most everything I like about music and deftly weaves it into joy.
Marcus Strickland & Twi-Life - People Of The Sun (2018)

Strickland doesn’t want us to think of this as a “jazz” album, even if it is on the storied Blue Note label. But in today’s market this also is not music designed to make it on the radio or to sell significant quantities. Today, this kind of ART MUSIC is simply being made with the production and trappings of blockbuster pop, filtered though a “jazz” tradition that embraces a history of innovation and recombination rather than emulation.

On its own terms, this new connective tissue between jazz and hip-hop is successful, rich and full of possibilities

Miguel Zenón - Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook (2011)

So evocative in a reminiscent way and down home, even though I can count the amount of traditional Puerto Rican songs I know on no hands.
