Bing Crosby - Join Bing In A Gang Song Sing Along (1961)

OS0zNjIzLmpwZWc.jpeg

By the 60's Bing had become a follower rather than a trend setter. Here, he jumped on the "Sing Along With Mitch" bandwagon. Conductor Jack Halloran latched onto many of the same vintage pop tunes from early in the century with harmonica lead and large chorus, but crammed as many as five of them into medleys running about 3 minutes.

The songs where Bing isn't drowned out by the overly aggressive background singers are pretty good. And where else would you hear a major league singer take on "Blow The Man Down"?

I have never listened to this release and for some odd, unknown reason associated with the cover artwork have avoided it.

What say ye about this one?
Well the opener is the original “Haitian Fight Song”. A classic. It’s a very good album - the title track is a narrative with Jean Shepard to jazz music. Though an interesting choice at the time, it’s dated - though not bad the first time. Definitely an album worth a listen though I’d go to probably 6 other Mingus albums before this one
