Lee Morgan - Tom Cat (recorded 1964, released 1990)

Just saw this post a few minutes ago, started reading the article, and had to stop reading because I felt compelled to listen to Lee as well as read about him.

Lee Morgan - Taru (recorded 1968, released 1980)

So good I had to do it again! Love Lee with Maupin and/or Hicks, so it's nice to get them both here. And a young George Benson is very in the session here.

EDIT: Not as hot and cookin' as Tom Cat, but not an album o' ballads either. Just kind of less combustible than might be expected, but undercover intricate. Makes me think this is kind of what ECM might have sounded like had it been active in the 60s. Well, only part of it. No it doesn't. It was only one song, and then, not even that much.

Anouar Brahem, et al. ~ Khomsa (1995)

I truly wanted to like this, and can't say I hate it, but the addition of the accordion is disappointing and even, quite frankly, annoying. When played raucously, an accordion sounds strident and vaudevillian. I cannot even pick up on an Astor Piazzola new-tango vibe.

Much of it, with the oud and the piano, is quite sublime and beautiful. I will listen again before deciding what to do.

Uncle Meat

And now for something completely different...
