Louis Armstrong & The All Stars- Complete Newport 1956 & 1958 (Mosaic LP 2014)
Vinyl Rip Of The Day.
My mom's high school friend from Springfield IL, Barrett Deems, plays drums here. I met him once when I went back with her to her high school reunion. Nice guy, if a bit high-strung, and an avid gum chewer. Barrett drove a Willys Aero.
When he found out I love music and knew who he was, he immediately pulled a pair of drum sticks out of his pocket and played a solo on his trunk.
Isidro Lopez - "El Indio" (rec. 1954-62, Arhoolie comp. 1993)
Isidro is acknowledged as the father of Tejano music. Born in Bishop TX, his mother was an Apache, hence his nickname. These catchy hits were all recorded in the U.S. and offer a fascinating view of musical fusion decades before it became trendy.
