Richard Davis - Epistrophy & Now's The Time (Muse 1972)
Cutting edge live jazz from the legendary bass player. Wiki sez:
Richard Davis (born April 15, 1930) is an American jazz bassist. Among his most famous contributions to the albums of others are Eric Dolphy's Out to Lunch!, Andrew Hill's Point of Departure, and Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, of which critic Greil Marcus wrote (in The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll), "Richard Davis provided the greatest bass ever heard on a rock album."
This is the same music as the old 1977 LP with 4 bonus tracks and improved sound. As a collector, I have to ask why EMI didn't just go for broke and release the complete 1964 and 1965 shows since they have been bootlegged to death anyway.
This is an excellent album that has grown on me over repeated listens. However, I wish they would write some new songs. It seems they do the same few over and over on multiple albums.
This is a live album, but it's hard to tell because the audience is very quiet/edited out.
