Next Collective - Cover Art (2013)

A supergroup of young lions (at the time) who covered contemporary music in an apparent attempt to create new Jazz standards. I have and enjoy many albums with each of these musicians (Walter Smith III, Gerald Clayton, Matthew Stevens, Christian Scott, Ben Williams, etc.)

AllMusicGuide said:
Straddling the line between contemporary jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and harmonically advanced post-bop, Cover Art showcases Next Collective performing a variety of cover songs by contemporary artists like Jay-Z, D'Angelo, Pearl Jam, Drake, and others.
...
brings to mind such similar efforts by artists like Brad Mehldau and the Bad Plus, who've both recorded albums of covers by artists from the '70s and onward. ... Ultimately, with songs that cross the line between edgy, atmospheric alt rock, groove-oriented R&B, and exploratory modal jazz, Cover Art feels less like a side project, and more the work of a unified ensemble.

Prince - Paris Affair (Kiss The Stone ROIO 1987)

I have resurfaced for a breath of air after many days of intense legal wrangling. :worm:

My how times have changed. Back in the day, live boots like this one went for the big bucks and arrived in a plain brown wrapper. Now you can Google the show date and find damn near any show. Kiss The Stone was always the Rolls Royce of ROIO and this hard rocking show from Paris keeps to their high standard.

Leonard Feather put together a fascinating live show to highlight the conflict between modern "cool jazz" and traditional "hot jazz". Here's the set list:

Dizzy Gillespie's Cool Jazz Stars How High The Moon
Jimmy McPartland's Hot Jazz Stars How High The Moon
Buddy De Franco and The Cool Jazz Stars Indiana
Edmond Hall and The Hot Jazz Stars Indiana
Jimmy McPartland's Hot Jazz Stars Muskrat Ramble
Don Elliott and The Cool Jazz Stars Muskrat Ramble
Jimmy McPartland's Hot Jazz Stars Battle Of The Blues
Dizzy Gillespie's Cool Jazz Stars Battle Of The Blues

The crowd obviously loved every minute.

^ Your cite re year and case name made me laugh.

You remember the citation for Brown v. Board of Education?

Reminds me of odd case names like Silver v. Gold and Plough v Harrow.

But... Sorry, Professor, I need to keep this brief.

I figured you’d catch the reference, Axo. You’re very far cited and you’ve never lost your appeal. :judge:
