Pulp - Different Class (1995)

I (STILL) LOVE THIS ALBUM!

Britain and the U.S. are so tied together musically with each influencing/appreciating the other's music, that it still amazes me when I consider an artist or album (like this one) hits #1 across the pond and doesn't chart/isn't released here. I'm no A&R man or promoter but we've dug so many British artists over the years, why not push the album here. Of course, I kind-of know the answer - compared to the ultimate crossover Britpop album (What's the Story) Morning Glory, albums like this or, say, Parklife are decidedly British and may not have the same appeal.

Still, this is one of those albums that is so good, I'm just amazed when people I know don't know it (not a problem with the knowledgeable folks here at the ol' MG). I just wanna shake them and say "You have to listen!" (I'm glad self-control kicks in - I could totally be a Peter Finch-like guy out of Network crazily suggesting new albums for people)

You know, I tried to look up that album, but Blur didn't release an album by that name, it was Pulp. :p

Nevertheless, I will check it out and listen to it later, thanks.

Oh, you know those Brit-Pop purveyors and their single-syllable names. They're always trying to pull one over on us.

Bless your heart, that you're not a jaded music nerd, and still get excited.
Yeah, I'm on your side, Zeebs! :duel:

Based on sheer enthusiasm alone, I will now make it a point to listen to both Pulp and Blur in the upcoming days, or your money cheerfully refunded. :aha: :Matt:

By the way, be a good chap, and listen to Arnold Hillside or Barn Tapes one of these days. Eh, what?

Strange. I used to profess my love for Pulp, and especially this album, at the old site and I recall being roundly poo-poohed for listening to crappy Brit Pop. That kept me from rhapsodizing about Blur, my favorite Brit Pop band. Now the MG likes Pulp?! Well, .....ok then.
Check out "This is Hardcore" next in your Pulp listening. Outstanding album too. Less Anglophilic/angsty than "Different Class". More dark.
