What Are You Listening To? September 2019

Whenever you post this artist, for a second I think you’re listening to Tom Petty.
His albums simply say Troy. He is no relation to the late, great Tom, AFAIK, but this guy can sure sing.

You might say he's my new singer-songwriter man-crush. But, if you do, I'll tweet 40 times that it's fake news, and you're on a witch-hunt, and I'll misspell half the words.

Elvis Costello - This Year's Model (1978)

This Year's Model

An old favorite for my gym workout this morning

Cecilia Bartiroli & Sol Gabetta - Dolce Duello (2017)

Two years back, our favorite coloratura here at MG joined forces with an upcoming Argentine cellist for a varied program from Boccherini, Handel, Vivaldi and some other undeservedly less familiar composers. Despite the title ("Sweet Duel"), there was obviously a real connection between these two talented women and the results are a joy from start to finish. Bartiroli throttles down her natural exuberance so as not to overwhelm the small chamber group led by Sol's brother, Andres. A great way to start the week!

Broken Spindles ~ Document Number One (2008)

Woe betide the individual artist that strays from an arbitrary script that his listeners have set up for him.

Joel Petersen is a member of Beep Beep and The Faint. His fans apparently want any side projects to resemble BB&TF.

Instead, he flouts their affections with (what?) Indietronica (?)

It's very good Indietronica, however. I could name several artists that compose similar material, but that would simply be needless name-dropping.

So, listen to it if you like this subgenre; pass on it if you don't.
