The Coal Porters - The Gram Parsons Tribute Concert (1998)

The pub rock scene always had a heavy country influence but here the Brits went all in for alt country. Live from The Garage in London, Sid Griffin and the bootleg Burritos offer a dozen songs from Gram's canon on the 25th anniversary of his passing. They achieve not just tribute but embodiment of his restless musical spirit.

This one came as a bonus from a very kind trader on MusicBoomerang.

High Places ~ High Places (2008)

Psychedelic Pop, Neo-Psychedelia, Glitch Pop, Ambient Pop

I was thinking that Nick might appreciate this, if not enjoy it. Of course, that kind of thinking rarely gets me anywhere.

But then, there is this:

RYM review:

This is the kind of record Young Marble Giants would have made if they had ever recorded in the caribbean.

Terry Melcher - Terry Melcher (1974)

Doris Day's kid is better known for his work as a record producer. But this album, aided by the skills of The Wrecking Crew, shows him to be an ingratiating vocalist in the Dylanesque polemic style. He must have called in a lot of favors to draw a guest list that included:

Chris Hillman
Michael Clark
Clarence White
Ry Cooder
Tony Martin Jr.
J.D. Maness
Sneaky Pete Kleinow
Bruce Johnston
Spanky MacFarlane

Even Doris Day herself chimed in. Fun stuff!
