Jackson Browne - Standing In The Breach (2014)

Easily the best album from JB since he left Elektra Records in 2002.

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (1989)

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique - album cover

Still jumping around with my listening - playlists, even checked out some of those Guardian "Best Duets" songs - but trying to get one of the Penguin Jazz albums daily and one Acclaimed Music list daily (this one is #90) :)

John Cougar Mellencamp - American Fool (1982)

Another Music Boomerang score. This one wasn't a critical fave when it came out but Johnny's Stones meet Bruce heartland rock has aged a lot better than most of the music from 1982. Men At Work, anyone?

:4.5: on the Sam-O-Meter.

Gustavo Santaolalla ~ Ronroco (1997)

Gustavo Santaolalla's Ronroco (named for the lute-like stringed instrument Santaolalla plays on many of the album's tracks) is 42 minutes of subtle, minimalistic, cerebral, and hypnotic brilliance. Santaolalla's music has added a beautiful texture to many films (like Brokeback Mountain and The Motorcycle Diaries), and he stands out as one of the great living composers. "De Ushuaia a La Quiaca," "Gaucho," and "Iguazú" are especially worthwhile.
